Owens Announces $2.5M in FAA Grants to Improve Regional Airport Infrastructure

Yesterday Congressman Owens announced a combined $2,558,750 in Federal Aviation Administration grants awarded for rehabilitation and upgrades to several regional airports in northern New York.

"Our regional airports are a vital resource for local business travelers and tourists," said Congressman Owens. "Many connect travelers to larger airline hubs and support business activity throughout the region. These FAA grants awarded by the Department of Transportation will help ensure the longevity, safety and reliability of these important facilities."

Grant awards recently announced include $684,000 for the Town of Harrietstown to rehabilitate the Adirondack Regional Airport, two awards totaling $925,250 for the Town of Massena to rehabilitate the Massena International-Richards Field Airport, $427,500 for the Town of North Elba to rehabilitate the Lake Placid Airport, $252,000 for the Village of Potsdam to rehabilitate the Potsdam Municipal/Damon Field Airport, and $270,000 for the Town of Malone to make miscellaneous improvements to the Malone-Dufort Airport.

Last year The New York Times reported Canadian travelers looking for cheaper flights made frequent use of regional airports along the northern border. According to a recent article by Yahoo! News Canada, the trend has continued.
